Vineyard of Samaropetra
Kir- Yianni- Aghios Panteleimonas, Amintaio, Florina
Vineyard of Samaropetra- Winery of Kir- Yanni in Aghios Panteleimonas- Amintaio.
The Kir-Yianni vineyards and winery are located in the region of Aghios Panteleimonas in Amintaio in Florina and more specifically on the shores of lake Vegoritis, surrounded by the mountains of Kaimakcalan and Vermio. The winery was created in order to stimulate an underdeveloped area, which was put on the map thanks to the systematic efforts of the founder of the winery, Yiannis Boutaris. Today, Amyndeon, a traditional but, until now, neglected viticultural zone, has evolved into one of the most promising Greek winemaking regions. The characteristic microclimate, soil and high (ideal) altitude of the region, as well as the four lakes surrounding it, are suitable for the production of wines of high quality.
The viticultural zone of Amyndeon lies at an altitude of 700m, which covers an area of 16,5 hectares.
The soil is generally poor and sandy, which aids the production of wines with finesse and a rich aroma. The climate of the area is characterized by hot summers and cold winters, but the extremities of the climate are regulated by the water masses of four lakes that surround the vineyard, creating ideal conditions for viticulture, especially of white wines. Moreover, the practice of conventional agriculture in a total area of 30 hectares, guarantees the supervision of the agricultural methods which are applied and the selection of raw materials. The varieties that are produced here are the following international white wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and the Greek varieties of Roditis, Asyrtiko, Malagousia and Malvasia Aromatica.
The winery of Amintaio is equipped with stainless fermentation tanks which hold 10- 200 HL, and have a total capacity of 1200 tonnes. At the facilities of the winery the temperature of the wines can be controlled, the cold soak method can be applied during vinification and there are a selection bank, pneumatic presses and a VINIMATIC with a capacity of 30 tonnes.
